Cologne. In October of 2001, after starting a pilot project with a local diocese, Malteser International opened its first office in Myanmar’s capital city, Yangon. Ten years later, Malteser International is celebrating one decade of successful projects and honouring its long-serving employees with medals of merit. Today, Malteser International has four project locations and counts on 310 national and 11 international staff members in the country. With projects in the areas of health, water supply, sanitation and disaster risk reduction, Malteser International reaches more than 700,000 Burmese residents annually.
