Janine Lietmeyer was born in Moers, Germany. She studied political science and international humanitarian action at the universities of Bonn and Bochum in Germany, as well as Louvain in Belgium.
She has worked for Malteser International since 2005. Following roles in the communications, emergency relief, and Africa departments, she has been heading the regional department Middle East responsible for program in Iraq, Syria, Türkiye and Lebanon for the last four years before helping to establish MI’s humanitarian response to the war in Ukraine. Janine Lietmeyer was appointed Program Director on 1st September 2022.
She is married with three children.
