Burundi

The colonization of the country in the 19th and 20th centuries has left its mark on the small state in East Africa to this day. The resulting political and social crises have weakened the country's infrastructure. Burundi is the poorest country in the world. Climate change threatens the local population with recurring floods. Refugee movements from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Burundi pose additional challenges for local structures.

The people in Burundi are not adequately protected from emergency situations. International and local organizations such as Malteser International and Fondation Stamm are supporting the people with relief supplies and expertise.

Our measures as an aid organization: rapid assistance in the event of natural disasters

From November 2018 to June 2019, the focus of our aid in Burundi - in collaboration with our partner organization Fondation Stamm - was on food security and the protection of street children. We have now successfully completed these projects and currently have no ongoing aid projects on the ground. However, in the event of natural disasters and crises, we continue to stand by the affected people in Burundi with our partner Fondation Stamm and provide rapid emergency aid. In recent years, we have been able to provide aid during the coronavirus pandemic, during floods and for refugees.
