More than 25,000 people flee amid threat of volcanic eruption in the Philippines

Following latest activity on Mount Mayon, experts have raised the alert level from three to the second highest level of four, meaning that an eruption is imminent.

Mayon is considered the most volatile of the Philippines' active volcanoes. The volcano has been spewing ash, lava, and other material for over a week, forcing over 25,000 residents in the central province of Albay to flee their homes. Many have fled to evacuation centers, and are at risk of losing everything if the volcano erupts.

Malteser International is on stand-by alert and has planned an intervention.
