Working with trusted local partners, Malteser International is providing urgently needed emergency relief to people affected by the flash flood, thanks to the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
Together with our local partner organization RSDC, we are supporting around 2,000 people in some of the hardest-hit communities of Bidur Municipality in Nuwakot District. The response focuses on improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, providing food assistance, and supplying other urgently needed relief items.
Affected families are receiving jerry cans for the safe storage of drinking water, water purification tablets, soap, dental hygiene items, towels, menstrual hygiene products, and underwear. These measures help reduce health risks in the affected communities.
In addition, we are distributing food packages containing rice, lentils, cooking oil, flour, salt, and sugar to support families who have lost their food supplies and sources of income due to the flood. Families who have lost their homes or belongings are also receiving kitchen utensils, tarpaulins, blankets, and mattresses.
Furthermore, our partner organization KOSHISH, with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is providing psychosocial support to people affected by the disaster in the districts Nuwakot and Rasuwa. KOSHISH staff offer psychological first aid, psychosocial counseling, trauma-informed support, and other mental health services at the centers for displaced people. They also maintain close contact with people who were already living with psychosocial disabilities before the flood.
This response builds on many years of collaboration in the region. For several years, Malteser International and its local partners have supported communities in Nepal in strengthening mental health, coping with crises, and building resilience to natural disasters.
