Philippines: Malteser International provides emergency aid

Cologne/Manilla. Within the space of just a few days, a second severe typhoon made landfall in the Philippines over the weekend. Around 1.4 million people had to be evacuated. Many areas are currently still cut off from the outside world because the telephone network and internet are down. Together with the Philippine Association of the Order of Malta, Malteser International is preparing emergency aid, facilitated by its regional branch, MI Asia Pacific. Local partners will begin distributing non-perishable food, mattresses, blankets, and water containers to 1,000 families in the province of Cebu.

Prevention that saves lives: German teams practice for global cholera response

Cologne/Oestrich-Winkel. From November 6th to 9th 2025, comprehensive cholera response training for German emergency medical teams will take place in Oestrich-Winkel, Hesse. The aim of the training is to jointly establish a rapidly deployable care unit for cholera patients.
In view of increasing and prolongier cholera outbreaks worldwide, the Association of German Emergency Medical Teams has decided to set up a rapidly deployable cholera unit.

Malteser International: “Millions of lives are at risk”

Cologne/Cox's Bazar/Kakuma. The latest global cuts in international humanitarian aid budgets, including those by the German government, which has reduced its support by more than half, is having devastating consequences. While the number of people in need of assistance continues to climb, now reaching around 300 million, funding is shrinking. The health sector is particularly affected by the cuts. “These cuts could cost millions of lives worldwide,” says Kees Zevenbergen, program director at Malteser International, citing the example of health care in two of the world's largest refugee camps: Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh and Kakuma in Kenya. A total of 1.3 million people who have fled conflict and persecution are now losing access to medical care.

Order of Malta deems the attacks against the Holy Family parish in Gaza unacceptable

The Sovereign Order of Malta deems the attacks carried out this morning against the Catholic parish of the Holy Family in Gaza unacceptable. The Order of Malta expresses its full solidarity with the parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli, and the civilians injured in today's raid on the place of worship, which in recent months has been a refuge for displaced persons and centre for humanitarian aid in Gaza. The Order stands with the families of those affected and reiterates its firm condemnation of any attacks against the Palestinian civilian population and of all violations of international humanitarian law.

Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome: “Children don't need charity – they need commitment”

Cologne/Rome. The fourth international “Ukraine Recovery Conference” (URC) in Rome is an important signal of support and solidarity, according to the Malteser Relief Service of Ukraine. The Head of Malteser Ukraine, Pavlo Titko, is taking part in the conference. "Recovery is not only about reconstruction. It's about remembering that rebuilding a nation also means rebuilding its children. And they don't need charity – they need commitment," says Titko.

Our Annual Report 2024 is now available!

It offers insights into some of our more than 150 projects through which we supported over seven million people in the past year. Their stories of hope and strength continue to inspire us and affirm that we are on the right path. We focus on the health and well-being of the people in need with whom we work. In 2024, we were able to support around 4.8 million people through various health initiatives. Our work also centered on food and nutrition security, as well as WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene). Thanks to these efforts, nearly 680,000 people gained access to safe drinking water, and more than 51,000 malnourished children under the age of five received successful treatment.
