Malteser International: current and past Annual Reports

In line with our commitment to transparency and responsible action, we regularly provide an account of our work in our annual report. We are open about how we finance our work, where donations are used and how exactly we help people around the world.

Above all, we report on our activities over the past year in selected project regions and countries, and on how we have worked together with the people there to improve their living conditions. Precise figures from our project countries show that your donations are being received and are a great support for our work.

In addition to the successes in individual countries, we report on further important issues that have accompanied us over the past year, as well as emergency aid missions and events that required our immediate support. We also report on the development of our organization to give you the best possible insight into our work.

Our latest Annual Report for the year 2025

Humanitarian aid is currently undergoing a historic transformation. Global public funding for aid projects has declined rapidly over the past year and a half. Faced with what seems like an endless series of often protracted crises, even those who are not directly affected feel overwhelmed by the constant sense of urgency. Donor fatigue and a shift in values regarding giving to humanitarian causes are accompanying this fast changing situation. The first drastic consequences of these developments became apparent in 2025 – and today the situation is more alarming than ever before. Around the world, refugees and displaced people in particular are seeing their situation grow rapidly more precarious, with schools and clinics closing, water supply systems going out of service, and food rations shrinking. At the same time, rising violence and conflict force even more people to leave their homes  – more than 117 million people were forced to live away from their homes last year.

This is fundamentally a crisis of internally displaced people: nearly 60 percent of all displaced individuals are living like refugees within the borders of their own country. Providing effective health support for them is often challenging – but always crucial. In 2025, we supported over 700,000 refugees and internally displaced people affected by some of the largest humanitarian crises in the world through our health work. Read more in our 2025 Annual Report about the importance of mental health in conflict situations and during displacement (Ukraine), how life-saving emergency medical services improve the well-being of refugees (Uganda), and how essential the training and work of local volunteers is for medical care in the world’s largest refugee settlement (Bangladesh). Read also about how we have repositioned ourselves as an organization to keep pace with change and continue to stand as a strong partner alongside people in need.

Over eight million people in 33 countries relied on our support in 2025 – they are counting on us again in 2026 and beyond. This year we will continue to invest in the efficiency and effectiveness of our organization. New approaches and joint action will be required in the future to sustain the urgently needed aid. We will face these challenges with God’s help and you by our side. Thank you for your commitment, your trust, and your belief in our mission.
