Malteser International employee distributes emergency kits to the Ukrainian community

Relief supplies for areas affected by war

Since 2022, the relief distributions of Malteser Ukraine and its partner network in Eastern and Southern Ukraine have reached more than 276.000 people, most of them in Ukrainian towns and villages in oblasts most affected by the fighting. Especially in the Southern and Eastern parts of Ukraine close to the conflict line, many people are still in need of material support and humanitarian aid more than three years after the start of the war.

The ongoing destruction of infrastructure, the mining of agricultural land and the constant attacks on Ukrainian areas close to the front are severely affecting the income opportunities of residents in eastern and southern Ukraine. Access to everyday necessities is severely limited, especially outside the major cities. In addition, there are regular attacks on the critical energy supply often leading to long-lasting power cuts. Together with its partner network in Ukraine, Malteser International therefore continues to support the population with food, hygiene products and winter kits. The aid focuses on those who are most vulnerable, including people with disabilities or with low mobility.

The aim of the project is to improve and strengthen the living conditions and resilience of those affected by distributing food, winter, and hygiene packages.

  • Provision and distribution of food and everyday necessities, as well as needs-based and seasonally adapted relief supplies (hygiene articles) and winter aid in the form of winter kits.
  • Maintaining supply chains via warehouses in different parts of Ukraine, amongst others in Ivano-Frankivsk managed by Malteser Ukraine.
