Mexico
Mexico is a land of contrasts, marked by stark social and economic inequalities. Despite progress in combating poverty, the 2024 OECD Economic Survey reports that 36% of the population still lives in poverty, with 7% in extreme poverty. Income levels are closely tied to origin and ethnicity, reflecting broader disparities in access to healthcare and education, particularly in rural and urban areas.
Mexico City has made strides in HIV prevention, achieving lower incidence and prevalence rates than global averages. However, the HIV incidence rate in the city has remained stagnant over the past decade, necessitating further measures to reduce new cases and manage HIV/AIDS health outcomes.
Additionally, Mexico is prone to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes. This was starkly evidenced by three major earthquakes in September 2017, which heavily impacted Mexico City and its surroundings.
