Cologne/Rome. The fourth international “Ukraine Recovery Conference” (URC) in Rome is an important signal of support and solidarity, according to the Malteser Relief Service of Ukraine. The Head of Malteser Ukraine, Pavlo Titko, is taking part in the conference. "Recovery is not only about reconstruction. It's about remembering that rebuilding the lives of its children. And they don't need charity – they need commitment. There is no child left in Ukraine who is not affected by this war. It is the children who sometimes suffer the most severe psychological wounds and need psychosocial support. This is also important for the recovery of the country, as it will be more successful with people whose traumas have been treated and whose psychosocial health was not forgotten during the war. We must think about the future and a time after the war now," says Titko.

According to the relief organization, talking about recovery also means relieving the children from the cruel everyday life of war and stabilizing them now. "Outdoor games, time to talk, being together with peers are very important to mentally process daily air raids, school lessons in dark vaults and so on,” says Titko.

Together with Malteser Ukraine, Malteser International runs various mental health and psychosocial support programs in Ukraine. Individuals and groups receive care and treatment from specialists. Programs of this kind were already launched in 2014 to help returning soldiers reintegrate into their families and social circles. Today, the entire country is in a state of war. Malteser International in cooperation with local partner organizations offers a wide range of support to the war-affected population, from short-term crisis intervention after aerial attacks to summer camps for children.
